God of Wealth Temple Hangzhou (天下第一财神庙): Lingshun Temple Guide
If you're visiting Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, there's another temple nearby that I'd definitely add to your morning:
Lingshun Temple (灵顺寺) — better known as 天下第一财神庙, or the “No. 1 God of Wealth Temple.”
We went here first thing in the morning, took the cable car up Beigao Peak (北高峰) before the queue got busy, visited the temple, rang the bell eight times for good wealth...
…and then continued our day at Lingyin Temple.
It actually makes a really nice Hangzhou temple route.
2026 UPDATE: Lingshun Temple announced that it will be temporarily closed from May 25 to November 25, 2026 while its buildings, fire-safety systems and other facilities are renovated. Check for reopening updates before visiting.
What Is 天下第一财神庙?
The temple's actual name is:
Lingshun Temple 灵顺寺
It sits at the top of Beigao Peak (北高峰), behind the Lingyin Temple area.
Lingshun Temple dates back more than 1,600 years to the Eastern Jin period. In the early Northern Song dynasty, the temple became associated with the Five Manifestations Gods of Wealth (五显财神), and people gradually began referring to it as a God of Wealth temple.
Today you'll commonly see the name:
天下第一财神庙
which roughly translates to:
“The No. 1 God of Wealth Temple Under Heaven.”
Naturally, a lot of people come here to pray for:
wealth, business, career and prosperity.
Take the Cable Car Up Beigao Peak
You can hike up Beigao Peak...
But we took the cable car. 😂
And I'd do the same again.
The Beigao Peak Cableway (北高峰索道) takes you up towards the summit where Lingshun Temple is located.
When we visited, we went in the morning before the queue became long, which made everything much easier.
Current visitor information lists the uphill cable-car ticket at around ¥30 per person.
If you're planning to do this route, my advice would be:
Go early.
You avoid some of the crowds and still have most of the day left for Lingyin Temple afterward.
The View From Beigao Peak
Even if you weren't coming specifically for the God of Wealth temple, the location itself is worth experiencing.
Beigao Peak sits above the Lingyin area, and on a clear day you get wide views across Hangzhou's surrounding mountains.
There's something nice about starting the day by taking the cable car up through all that greenery before reaching this old temple at the top.
I Rang the Bell 9 Times for Wealth 😂
One of the things you can do at Lingshun Temple is ring the 祈福钟 — blessing bell.
When we visited, I followed the temple's arrangement and rang the bell 9 times.
The bell experience was ¥30 for 9 strikes, and of course, being at the famous God of Wealth Temple, I was hoping those nine rings would bring some good fortune and prosperity too. 😂
How Much Is Lingshun Temple?
Before its current renovation closure, regular admission was listed at approximately:
¥8 per person
with tickets purchased at the temple.
That made the whole visit pretty affordable:
Cable car up: around ¥30Temple: around ¥8
Prices and access arrangements could change once the temple reopens after renovation, so check the latest information before going.
Visit Linshun Temple (God of Wealth) Before Lingyin Temple
This is probably my biggest recommendation.
Don't necessarily treat 财神庙 as a completely separate day.
It's right around the wider Lingyin / Beigao Peak area, so you can combine them.
Our route was basically:
Morning
Beigao Peak Cable Car 北高峰索道
↓
天下第一财神庙 / Lingshun Temple
↓
Come back down
↓
Lingyin Temple 灵隐寺
And then continue exploring the Lingyin area.
The mountain also has hiking trails if you'd rather walk instead of taking the cable car.
How Long Should You Spend Here?
I'd roughly allow:
1–2 hours
including the cable car, looking around the temple and enjoying the view.
Then save a few more hours for Lingyin Temple because that area is significantly larger.
That's why visiting 财神庙 first thing in the morning works so well.
Is 天下第一财神庙 Worth Visiting?
I think it is — especially if you're already visiting Lingyin Temple.
It's not one of those attractions where you need half a day.
Instead, it adds another experience to your Hangzhou morning:
Cable car up the mountain.
Visit an ancient temple.
Pray for prosperity.
Ring the bell.
Enjoy the mountain view.
Then head down and continue to Lingyin Temple.
For us, it made the day much more memorable than simply going straight to Lingyin.
And hey...
I rang the bell 9 times, so we'll see how that investment performs. 😂

Personally, I think Faxi Temple is one of the most beautiful temples we visited in Hangzhou.
