Sanlitun Beijing (三里屯): Is It Worth Visiting?
Sanlitun (三里屯) is one of Beijing's most famous modern shopping and lifestyle districts.
But from my personal experience?
It's okay. 😂
If you love shopping, especially luxury and high-fashion brands, you'll probably enjoy it much more than we did.
We stopped by, walked around for a while, explored some of the stores…
…and then left.
But there is one very good reason I'd still recommend coming to this area:
Siji Min Fu Roast Duck (四季民福烤鸭店).
More on that below.
What Is Sanlitun Beijing?
Sanlitun is located in Beijing's Chaoyang District and is known for shopping, restaurants, cafés and fashion.
The main attraction here is Taikoo Li Sanlitun (三里屯太古里), an open-air shopping development divided into different areas.
Today, Sanlitun is very much positioned as one of Beijing's major fashion districts. Taikoo Li's North area especially focuses on luxury and designer brands. Recent additions include flagship stores from Louis Vuitton, Dior, Tiffany & Co. and other international luxury brands.
So if you're into fashion, this could easily be somewhere you spend a few hours.
Luxury Shopping in Sanlitun
You'll find plenty of international brands around Taikoo Li Sanlitun.
Think:
Louis Vuitton
Dior
Gucci
Celine
Loewe
Balenciaga
alongside contemporary fashion and lifestyle stores.
There's also a lot happening architecturally — many of the luxury brands have their own large standalone flagship stores rather than just regular units inside a shopping mall.
So even if you're not buying anything, it's quite a nice area to walk around and see the storefronts.
Is Sanlitun Worth Visiting?
For us personally:
It wasn't a must-visit.
It's nice.
It's modern.
There are plenty of shops.
But if you only have a few days in Beijing, I'd prioritise places like the Forbidden City, Jingshan Park and Summer Palace first.
Sanlitun makes more sense if:
You love luxury shopping
You're interested in fashion
You want to see modern Beijing
You have extra time in your itinerary
You're already coming here to eat
And that last one is probably the biggest reason I'd return.
Go to Siji Min Fu Roast Duck Nearby
If you're visiting Sanlitun, I highly recommend pairing it with Siji Min Fu Roast Duck (四季民福烤鸭店).
For us, this was much more memorable than Sanlitun itself. 😂
Siji Min Fu is a popular Beijing restaurant known for Peking roast duck, and some of its more famous branches can have seriously long waiting times.
We went to a branch around the Sanlitun area at approximately 6 PM.
When we arrived?
No queue.
We basically went straight in.
Go Early — The Queue Changed Completely
Here's the important part.
By the time we finished eating, there were already around:
30+ tables waiting outside.😂
So our timing was ridiculously good.
If you're planning to eat here for dinner, I would definitely recommend arriving early rather than during peak dinner hours.
Our day went:
Great Wall of China → early dinner at Siji Min Fu → Sanlitun
would make a nice afternoon/evening itinerary.
Some of Siji Min Fu's popular Beijing branches are well known for long waits, so choosing a less crowded branch can save a lot of time.
What Should You Order?
Obviously:
Peking Roast Duck 北京烤鸭
If you're coming to Beijing for the first time, roast duck is one of those foods you should try at least once.
The duck is normally served with thin pancakes and accompaniments that you wrap together yourself.

My Verdict on Sanlitun
Would I specifically travel across Beijing just to visit Sanlitun?
Probably not.
But that's entirely personal.
If you're into brands like Louis Vuitton, Dior, Gucci and other designer labels, you'll probably find Sanlitun much more interesting.
If you're already nearby, definitely stop by.
