Universal Studios Beijing: A Full Guide
A few months after visiting Shanghai Disneyland for the first time, we went to Universal Studios Beijing.
And yes — I definitely recommend it.
We visited in March, when Beijing was still pretty cold. The crowds were manageable, the weather was comfortable for walking around all day, and we had a genuinely fun time.
Honestly, I'd rather spend a whole day at a theme park in cold weather than under the Beijing summer sun. 😂
Our Experience at Universal Studios Beijing
We went during what felt like a quieter period of the year.
There were still people around, of course, but the park didn't feel ridiculously overcrowded when we visited.
That made a huge difference.
Instead of spending the entire day thinking about queues, we could actually walk around, explore the different themed areas and enjoy ourselves.
And because it was March, Beijing was still cold.
For a theme park?
I actually loved it.
You're constantly walking outdoors, moving between rides and exploring different areas, so the colder weather was really comfortable.
Just dress properly.
What's Inside Universal Studios Beijing?
Universal Studios Beijing is part of Universal Beijing Resort and contains seven themed lands.
These include areas based around:
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Transformers
Jurassic World
Minions
Kung Fu Panda
Hollywood
WaterWorld
Universal says the resort opened with 37 rides and attractions across seven themed lands, alongside shows and performances throughout the park.
Even if you're not obsessed with roller coasters, there's enough happening around the park that you can easily spend the entire day here.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
If you've ever been to another Universal Studios, you probably already know this is going to be one of the busiest areas.
You walk into Hogsmeade, see Hogwarts in the distance and suddenly the whole place feels completely different.
Even if you're only casually into Harry Potter, it's one of those areas that's fun just to walk around.
And visiting when Beijing was cold honestly made the setting feel even more appropriate. 😂
Don't Rush Through the Park
One thing I wouldn't recommend is treating Universal Studios Beijing like a checklist.
You paid to be there for the day.
Enjoy it.
Walk around.
Play the games.
Go on the rides you're interested in.
Stop for food.
Take photos.
Watch some of the shows.
Theme parks are much more enjoyable when you're not constantly running across the park trying to maximise every minute.
Is March a Good Time to Visit Universal Studios Beijing?
Based purely on our experience:
I liked March a lot.
The weather was cold, which meant spending the whole day walking outdoors felt comfortable.
We also found the crowds manageable when we visited.
That doesn't mean every March day will automatically be quiet — weekends, holidays, school breaks and special events can completely change crowd levels.
In fact, Universal Beijing runs seasonal events during spring, so I'd always check the park calendar before choosing your date.
But personally, if I had to choose between walking around Universal Studios in cold weather or peak summer heat...
give me March. 😂
How to Get to Universal Studios Beijing
Getting there by metro is straightforward.
Take the Beijing Metro to:
Universal Resort Station (环球度假区站)
The station is connected to Line 7 and the Batong Line.
From exits B, C or D, Universal says it's approximately a 7-minute walk to the Universal CityWalk security area.
This is another reason I like public transportation in China.
You don't necessarily need to arrange a car just to visit major attractions.
Buying Universal Studios Beijing Tickets
I'd recommend purchasing your tickets in advance rather than arriving and figuring it out there.
Universal Beijing uses real-name ticket registration, and the resort recommends buying through its official channels or authorised travel partners.
Official options currently include the Universal Beijing Resort app and its Alipay and WeChat mini programs.
If you're buying through a third-party travel platform, make sure it's an authorised seller. We bought our tickets from Trip.com.
One Important Thing About Reservations
Universal currently distinguishes between different ticket types.
Dated tickets don't require an additional park reservation, while certain General Admission tickets and Annual Passes require you to reserve your visit before entering.
So after buying your ticket, check exactly what your ticket requires.

I'd also recommend having the official app on your phone.
It's useful inside the park for things like:
ride wait times
park map
show schedules
attraction information
Universal specifically lists estimated wait times, navigation and parade/show schedules among the app's features.
That's much easier than wandering around trying to decide what to do next.
How Much Time Should You Spend Here?
Give Universal Studios Beijing one full day.
I wouldn't try to squeeze this into half a day alongside another major Beijing attraction.
You're travelling pretty far out from central Beijing anyway, and once you're there, you might as well enjoy it properly.
I'd roughly plan:
Morning: Arrive before/around opening
Day: Rides + attractions + food + shows
Evening: Finish the remaining areas + Hogwards Lightshow
Park operating hours change depending on the date, so check the official schedule before going rather than relying on fixed opening hours.
What time does the Hogwards Lightshow Begin?
The reason for staying the whole day is similar to Disneyland, they have a special lightshow before closing time. Universal Beijing doesn't have fireworks, but the Hogwards lightshow is something you cannot miss!
At Universal Beijing, they had 3 shows at 7:00pm, 7:15pm & 7:30pm, during the time of our visit. (Check updated times on their official website)
