City Walk Through Hangzhou

Day 3 was all about slowing down and enjoying a city walk through Hangzhou’s most historic and lively streets. We started from:

  • Nan Song Yu Jie (南宋御街): Ancient street with shops, snacks, and souvenirs.

  • He Fang Jie (河坊街): Always bustling with tourists and locals; the vibe was fun and lively.

  • Da Jing Xiang (大井巷): Narrow alleyways with preserved traditional charm.

  • Gu Lou (鼓楼): The old drum tower that marks the heart of Hangzhou’s old city.

The combination of old architecture, street vendors, and local life made this walk one of the most atmospheric experiences in Hangzhou.

Dinner at 四招儿私房菜

We ended the city walk at 四招儿私房菜, a restaurant famous for its Dongpo Rou (东坡肉) — Hangzhou’s signature braised pork dish. The best part? It was affordable and delicious, definitely a hidden gem worth searching for when in Hangzhou.

Checklist: What to Find in Hangzhou

Here’s a quick list of souvenirs and local specialties to look out for:

龙须糖 (Dragon Beard Candy) — Traditional sweet treat

青稚护手霜 (Qingzhi Hand Cream) — Popular local skincare pick

鸭屎柠檬茶 (Ya Shi Lemon Tea) — Don’t mind the name, it’s refreshing and tasty

马面裙 (Mamian Skirt) — Traditional-style Chinese skirt

旗袍 (Qipao) — Elegant traditional dress

东坡肉 (Dongpo Pork) — Must-try dish of Hangzhou

A Funny (But Painful) Story

Now here’s the twist: all of Day 3’s main footage was wiped out. SMH… I thought I had copied everything to the hard disk during the trip, but after returning home a month later, I realized the entire day’s camera footage was missing!

So this vlog was crafted entirely from iPhone clips — just the moments that were worth pulling my phone out of my pocket for. Not ideal, but at least we still had something to share. Lesson learned: always double-check your backups.

Hangzhou Railway Station

Taking the High-Speed Rail to Suzhou

We took the night train to Suzhou! It was roughly 1.45 mins and everything went smoothly, that means we will start our day early in Suzhou, so we get the full experience in both Pingjiang Road & Qilishantang the day up ahead.

Day 3 Wrap-Up

Even though the footage disaster hit us, Day 3 was still one of our favorite days in Hangzhou. The historic streets, delicious Dongpo Pork, and little discoveries along the way gave us a deeper connection to the city. We're excited for Suzhou!
