Day 2 in Hangzhou: We explored Beigaofeng by cable car, prayed at Lingshun Temple, visited Feilaifeng grottoes and Lingyin Temple, rode to Faxi Temple for the iconic photo spot, and ended with Wulin Night Market street food.
Morning at Beigaofeng & Lingshun Temple (灵顺寺)
We woke up early and took the bus to the Lingyin area (灵隐景区) to start our temple-hopping day. Our first stop was Beigaofeng (北高峰), where we rode the cable car up the mountain for a stunning view of Hangzhou.
At the top, we visited Lingshun Temple (灵顺寺) — known as the God of Wealth Temple(天下第一财神庙). I struck the large bell nine times for prosperity and wealth — a symbolic way to invite good fortune into life.
Feilaifeng (飞来峰) & Lingyin Temple (灵隐寺)
After coming down from Beigaofeng, we headed straight to Feilaifeng (飞来峰), famous for its stone grotto carvings. One highlight was seeing Ji Gong’s stone bed, a spot full of history and legend.
Next, we entered the grand Lingyin Temple (灵隐寺) — one of the largest and most famous Buddhist temples in China. The temple grounds were expansive and filled with incense, statues, and prayer halls.
We also stopped by their noodle shop, not for food but for the plaque (牌匾) on the wall. It displayed a phrase that we first encountered in Beijing through a Chinese calligraphy master we met:
人生哪能多如意,万事只求半称心 (“Life can’t always be perfect; it’s enough if only half of it goes as you wish.”)
This phrase resonated deeply with me, so we traveled hundreds of kilometers to see it in person — and it was worth it.
Faxi Temple (法喜寺)
From Lingyin, we took the 观光车 (sightseeing bus) to Faxi Temple (法喜寺). Known for its red ribbons tied with prayers and wishes, this temple is a favorite among both locals and tourists.
Don’t miss climbing to the top — there’s an internet-famous photo spot overlooking the temple rooftops and trees, perfect for capturing the beauty of Faxi.

Night at Wulin Night Market (武林夜市)
After a long day of temples, we went to Wulin Night Market for a well-deserved street food feast. The highlight was Pan Lao Ban (潘老板) grilled chicken, a stall famously recommended by Nicholas Tse. The flavors lived up to the hype — juicy, savory, and absolutely delicious.
Walking through the market with all the food stalls, neon lights, and buzzing energy was the perfect way to end our second day in Hangzhou.
Day 2 Wrap-Up
From mountain temples to night markets, Day 2 gave us a perfect balance of spiritual exploration and local flavor. Our favorite moments were striking the prosperity bell at Lingshun Temple, finding the calligraphy plaque at Lingyin, and finishing with Pan Lao Ban’s chicken at Wulin Night Market.
