Axiangsao Pork Knuckle Rice in Shanghai, China.

Not every memorable meal in Shanghai comes from a Michelin-star restaurant. Sometimes, it’s the humble street-side eateries that leave the biggest impression. A Xiang Sao Pork Rice (阿翔嫂) is exactly that kind of place — simple, homely, and serving bowls of braised pork rice that taste like a warm hug.

What’s on the Menu?

The star of the show here is, of course, Pork Knuckle Rice (猪脚饭). The braised pork is simmered until tender, slightly sweet, with that signature Shanghai-style richness. But that’s not all — A Xiang Sao also serves:

  • 🍲 Free Side Dishes green onions and braised tofu.

  • 🦆 Duck Rice are also super delicious!

The portions are generous, prices are affordable, and everything tastes unpretentious but deeply satisfying.

Why People Love It

Authentic Shanghai flavor without the tourist price tag.

Fast & casual dining, perfect for lunch breaks or late-night bites.

Our Experience eating Pork Knuckle Rice at Axiangsao

When we visited, the shop was quite empty as it was past lunch time. The pork rice came steaming hot, the sauce soaking beautifully into the rice. Truly one of the best pork knuckle rice i've tasted in awhile!
