1000 Trees Shanghai (天安千树) is one of Shanghai’s most unusual architectural landmarks — a massive shopping and lifestyle complex covered with trees overlooking Suzhou Creek. We visited during our Shanghai trip, and even if you’re not interested in shopping, I think it’s worth stopping by for the architecture, photography and riverside walk.

Why Visit 1,000 Trees?
Known locally as “魔都古巴比伦” (Magic City Babylon), 1,000 Trees 天安千树 is one of Shanghai’s most unique architectural landmarks. Designed by British architect Thomas Heatherwick, the building looks like a giant vertical forest, with over 1,000 concrete columns topped with living trees and shrubs.
When we visited, it felt like stepping into a futuristic Babylon — blending nature, design, shopping, and culture in one place.
